PT BSI Rehabilitates Critical Land in Banyuwangi
PT Bumi Suksesindo (BSI/Company), rehabilitated 60 hectares of critical land in the local protection area (KPS) of Perhutani Banyuwangi West and South.
Critical land is land that has suffered damage or a decrease in function, whether physical, chemical, or biological, so that it can no longer function optimally as a production medium, both for cultivated plants and wild plants.
To realize this program, PT BSI collaborates with many parties in Banyuwangi, from the government to the community. The ceremony of this rehabilitation activity took place at Agathis Forest, Licin, Banyuwangi, Saturday, April 26, 2025. Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani and Perhutani officials also attended the ceremony.
General Manager of Operations and Head of Mine Engineering of PT BSI Roelly Fransza explained that the determination of the planting site was based on the supervision of the Environmental Service of Banyuwangi Regency. The types of trees planted are multipurpose tree species (MPTS), such as avocado, durian, petai, and manting.
“We need more than 66,000 tree seedlings to cover 60 hectares of land,” he said.

Roelly Fransza added that in order for the critical land rehabilitation to be successful, the company does not just plant and then leave. For the next two years, PT BSI will continue to care for and ensure that the trees that have been planted grow well.
“Those who plant and care for the trees are local residents who work under our partner companies,” he said.
Furthermore, Roelly Fransza hopes that this rehabilitation can provide ecological benefits in the long term, as well as the economic value of the types of trees planted. This program is not only about planting trees, but also about planting hope; hope for a better environment, cleaner air, and more sustainable natural resources.
“This planting is not only a form of concern for the environment, but also a tangible form of joint commitment in restoring the ecosystem and improving the welfare of the community,” said Roelly Fransza. For the realization of this program, the Head of Mining Engineering of PT BSI also thanked the stakeholders, especially the Banyuwangi Regency Government, Perhutani, and the community around the planting site.
Meanwhile, Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani emphasized her support for this nature conservation program. She reminded her of the world’s current challenges facing the triple planetary crisis, which includes climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste issues.
“The earth’s temperature is increasing, the weather is getting more extreme,” he said.
Therefore, the Regent welcomed the initiative of this subsidiary of PT Merdeka Copper Gold, Tbk, which has realized tree planting in Aghatis, especially with productive plants.
“This is not symbolic. This is real action,” he said. “Thank you PT BSI for initiating this critical land rehabilitation activity.”
