Merdeka Copper Gold Subsidiary Rehabilitates 77.3 Hectares of Former Mining Site in Banyuwangi

PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk’s (MDKA) subsidiary, PT Bumi Suksesindo, has rehabilitated and reclaimed 77.3 hectares of land from the former mining site in the Tujuh Bukit mining area, Sumberagung Village, Pesanggaran District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java.

Rehab Specialist of PT Bumi Suksesindo, Rizki Marlinda, said that the total area of reclamation of ex-mining land, which reached 77.3 hectares, was from 2016 to October 2024. The total number of plants that have been planted is 66,184 trees. Of the plants, 60 percent are local plants and 40 percent are fast grow plants.

The plants planted include Bayur trees, Walangan trees, Bendo trees, Randu trees, Serikaya trees and others. The tree seedlings come from part of the natural saplings of the mother tree on Mount Overlapping, ore, to cuttings.

“Nursery (nursery-red) for the production of plants that will be used for reclamation activities in Bumi Suksesindo. This nursery can accommodate 15 thousand,” he said, when met in Banyuwangi, October 25, 2024.

The Company implements a progressive reclamation mechanism to carry out reclamation on former mining land.

“Progressive reclamation does not wait to be completed. The location is no longer disturbed, reclamation is carried out to reduce the rate of erosion. PT Bumi Suksesindo, a subsidiary of Merdeka Copper Gold, has a mining business license (IUP) covering 4,998 hectares issued by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The land operated is 992 ha of the 4,998 ha used by Bumi Suksesindo for mining operations.

The Tujuh Bukit gold mine, which will be built in 2024, is an open-pit mine in Banyuwangi, East Java, that digs mineral ores and crystallizes the gold and silver content with an efficient leaching method.
